Advertise on Facebook

Tuesday 11 March 2014

STEP 1.

Register as a user on Facebook, if you don't already have an account. While your event or business does not need to have a Facebook presence, you do need to be a registered Facebook user in order to advertise on Facebook.
  • You may want to create a new login ID, and not use your personal account. In particular, if you have someone who you need to submit receipts to, it is much better to set up a new Facebook account so that you don't have to share passwords.

STEP 2.

Choose a category and a page name to represent your company or service. A page is a profile for your business. You don't need a Page in order to advertise of Facebook, but most — if not all — big businesses have an established Page. On your Page, you can promote items or services, interact with established customers, and create opportunities to reach new customers.

STEP 3.

Upload a logo or picture that you want to associate with your business. Often, this is the logo that people associate with your brand.

STEP 4.

Upload a cover photo. This is the first thing that people will see when they view your business's Page. Your cover photo spans nearly the entire width of your Page and, again, should be something that customers might associate with your business.
  • For example, you're making a page for your business, Barbara's Catered Cupcakes. You might want to showcase a close-up of cupcakes, or perhaps a picture of Babara working behind the scenes, baking her wares.

STEP 5.

Create a sentence about what your business does. This can also be a slogan of your choice. This goes right beneath the company logo and category. Customers who come to your Page should be able to glean right away what services or products you offer based on this sentence.

STEP 6.

Set a web address for your Page. Choose an available web address in order to use on other promotional material.

STEP 7.

Begin reaching out to your customers with posts. Posts can be anything ranging from a notice of a summer sale to the announcement of a new product line. Your posts can be in the form of updates, photos, or videos. People who like your product will sometimes see your post show up in their news feed.

STEP 8.

Optimize your post. Advertisers have realized that not all posts are created equal. If you want more business driven by Facebook posts, and you want that business to grow in the right direction, be sure to keep the following tips in mind when posting:
  • Keep it short and sweet. According to Facebook, posts that are on the shorter side — between 100 and 250 characters — get about 60% more likes, comments and shares.[1] That's a big difference.
  • Appeal to the visual sense. Not everyone processes information better through words. In fact, a lot of people learn by seeing, tapping their visual sense. Photo albums, pictures, and videos drive engagement on Facebook Pages.
  • Use Page Insights to help you learn. Page Insights is a function that allows you mine your analytics so that you can better reach out to customers.

How to Get Used to Windows 8

Sunday 9 March 2014

STEP 1.

Install software like Classic Shell or Start Menu 7, which puts the start button and Windows 7 start menu in Windows 8. The start button or start orb and Windows 7 start menu is not included in Windows 8. But you can get it back by installing third party software. This will make Windows 8 more familiar to you, as well as giving you a Windows XP or Windows 7 start menu.

STEP 2.

Uninstall any Metro apps you do not use, as they only slow down your computer. Most laptops are not able to run Metro apps as the screen resolution is not high enough. This is true of many netbooks, therefore it is better to uninstall any apps you do not use. But remember, even if you cannot run the Metro apps, you will still be able to run all of the software you use on Windows XP and Windows 7, and access all of the computer settings.

STEP 3.

Under NO circumstances disable User Account Control regardless of how annoying you think it is. One of the reasons XP was so easily penetrated by viruses and other malware was that a user running as administrator could easily have their session hijacked with full control over the system. User Account Control ensures that no user process is running with full control without their explicit consent. Best practice is to run with a limited user account and turn UAC on so that an alternative username and password with administrative rights is required for any process requiring core system access.

Optimize Your Computer And Internet Speed

Saturday 8 March 2014

STEP 1.

Eliminate needless programs. Your Internet connection requires memory to be able to be at the speed you are paying for. If your computer is bogged down by programs you don't need, your connection will be slower. Close programs you aren't using.

STEP 2.

Do a virus and spyware scan. Viruses and spyware also use up memory which can contribute to a connection appearing slow. Run a thorough or complete scan of each even if you have it on and scanning. A regular scan will catch additional items.

STEP 3.

Make sure you aren’t running two firewalls. These will interfere with each other and, in addition to posing security problems, also reduce your web performance. In particular, if you use Windows but have downloaded or purchased a separate firewall, double-check that you aren’t also running Windows Firewall (which is turned on as a default). Go to Search > Windows Firewall and, if necessary, hit Change Settings to turn it off.

STEP 4.

Check your free space. If your hard drive is nearly full, take files you don't use often and either burn them to CD or DVD, place on an external hard drive, or delete them. Your computer uses free hard drive space as virtual memory, so a full hard drive will slow down your computer and your connection.

STEP 5.

Run a disk defragmentation. This should be done once every two weeks. It will improve your overall performance which can only help your Internet connection.

STEP 6.

Consider a computer upgrade. An older computer may not have the power to make use of many things on the Internet now. Even something as simple as a RAM (Random Access Memory) upgrade could help, but if your computer is more than five years old, it may be time to consider getting a newer model OR using a different operating system. Rolling back to an older windows version such as windows XP or trying out various Linux distributions, this often breaths life into an old computer. You can even get an OS that can boot directly to a browser if its the main thing you use it for (xPud, browserLinux, slitaz etc)!

STEP 7.

Turn off your computer every night. Leaving your computer in standby mode without turning it on and off completely every day or so will tie up memory and can soon slow down your Internet speed.
